We’re looking for a top-notch Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC and knowledge or materials, to join our awesome team in Vancouver, BC. who can tackle complex scenarios and solve mysteries backed by scientific reasonings. If you’re someone who takes your job seriously but also has a great sense of humor, we want you on our team.
Would you like to write CEP’s future with us?
The quest

As a forensic expert, you’ll be solving some of the most peculiar and perplexing cases that come our way. No mystery is too small or too big for you to handle. Here’s what you will typically be doing:

  • Conduct investigations to determine the root and cause of damage, failures, design & construction defects in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, materials, and fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Visit the location of an incident, record and gather evidence. Review technical documentation that may include engineering drawings, relevant standards, regulations, operating manuals, and maintenance records.
  • Gather details regarding the background and circumstances surrounding the incident by taking photographs, videos, and interviewing individuals associated with the incident.
  • Collaborate with experts in other disciplines, as needed, for complex investigations requiring different specialties.
  • Carefully dismantle components or assemblies in a systematic and non-destructive manner to obtain the evidence, as needed. Perform on-site or laboratory examinations of the evidence to assess whether it may have been the cause of a loss and to determine the failure mechanism. Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court, if required.
  • Attend client meetings to discuss the investigation outcome. Prepare preliminary and comprehensive investigation reports for clients. Provide expert testimony in the court when required.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and external standards. Liaise with, and work as part of, multi-disciplinary teams investigating the technical aspects of insurance or legal related losses.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) that complies with the ISO 9001:2015 Standards.
  • Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.

What’s in your bag?

  • An engineering degree in mechanical with Professional Engineer designation.
  • 5-10 years of experience working on mechanical systems of buildings, including HVAC. Knowledge of materials science will be a definite plus.
  • Knowledge and experience of business development.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Previous experience in forensic or failure analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills with ability to write clear and concise investigation reports.
  • A deep understanding of the power of laughter and its ability to make even the toughest of cases seem less daunting.

But here’s the thing – we’re not just looking for someone who meets our requirements alone. We’re looking for someone who will brings their unique personality, passion, and love for the forensic profession to the table. Below is a list of the benefits just waiting for you:

The Benefits

  • Flexible work schedule, a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Fun and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunity for professional growth.
  • Competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, massages, mental wellbeing, employee and family assistance programs, virtual health consulting, fitness and home office allowance, paid time off including your birthday, employee events and fun activities, a competitive compensation with performance bonuses.
  • A chance to work with some seriously awesome people.

So, if you are proud of your engineering expertise and are known for your passion in finding root and cause of failures, and damages of things, and you love the quest, got a bag full of your tools and are excited about this role, be our next top-notch expert
