Perioperative Services is offering an internal training opportunity for Registered Practical Nurses who are new to the Operating Room environment. This opportunity includes participation in an internal training program to support individual learning and skill acquisition, utilizing structured didactic and clinical education experience, prior to transitioning to independent practice. As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of patient care within the Operating Room. The Registered Practical Nurse provides nursing care to meet patient needs and works with the multidisciplinary team in meeting those needs. 1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse 2. Current BCLS certification 3. Demonstrated knowledge of patient care requirements and/or peri-operative standards in the assessment of management of adult surgical patients 4. Recent (2 years) experience in a perioperative, procedural or surgical care area 5. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills 6. Demonstrates commitment to the principles of professional practice 7. Demonstrates judgment in carrying out his or her role or function and is responsible and accountable for acting on the interpretation of data 8. Demonstrates critical-thinking and decision-making in assessment and problem identifications 9. Demonstrates ongoing personal professional education and development 10. Ability to wear lead aprons for long periods of time (aprons 15-20 pounds in weight, for cases 1-3 hrs in length)
