Description:
The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Recreation Cashier/Receptionist at Meadow Park Sport Centre (MPSC). Reporting to the Guest Services Supervisor, this position offers a variable schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly supporting MPSC’s operational hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. including weekends, starting October 1, 2024, through to April 20, 2025. Shift times start as early as 5:30 a.m. and go as late as 9:15 p.m.
The Recreation Cashier/Receptionist’s primary role is to be the first point of contact for guests and callers to MPSC and to deliver an excellent customer service experience in a pleasant, positive and professional manner by providing accurate information about MPSC programs and services; Municipal departments, programs and events; the Lost Lake Cross country ski area; Whistler Olympic Plaza; and the resort community. Duties include but are not limited to selling memberships, collecting admissions, and registering people for programs, both in person and over the phone.
Qualified candidates will have a grade 12 diploma supplemented by at least 1 year of previous experience in a similar role involving customer service, cashiering, and use of Point of Sale (POS) systems. Candidates must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite proficiency, knowledge of a variety of sports, creative programs, and activities, and a sound knowledge of the resort community. Previous experience in a recreation setting, proficiency with recreation software, and a valid first aid certification are considered strong assets.

Additionally, this individual will possess the ability to diffuse situations and apply conflict resolution techniques when assisting the public. The starting wage for this job position is $27.57 per hour.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
