REQUIREMENTS
We are seeking candidates with a strong background in data assimilation for ocean circulation modelling, oriented to coastal processes and very high-resolution modelling techniques. Proficiency in programming languages and experience with processing and interpreting simulation-based and observational datasets are essential for success in this role.
- PhD or equivalent experience in Physical Oceanography, Coastal Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics or other scientific disciplines dealing with numerical modelling (e.g. Physics, Mathematics)
- Experience in developments and implementations of coastal ocean models
- Good knowledge and skills in programming language (i.e Python and Fortran/C)
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and script languages (i.e. *nix shell)
- Knowledge of parallel programming on HPC architectures
- Fluency in English
Responsibilities:
ROLE
The role will be pivotal within the coastal ocean modelling team, contributing to the development of enhanced forecasting capabilities of coastal ocean models. Activities will focus on both research advancements in oceanography and the transition to operational forecasting, with a strong emphasis on innovative data assimilation solutions and the integration of observational data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is for a Data Assimilation Expert for Ocean Modelling oriented to the Coastal Ocean, with advanced expertise in data assimilation, leveraging variational, statistical and/or hybrid approaches, including artificial intelligence and machine learning for model-data integration. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of general ocean circulation, coastal processes, and very high-resolution modelling techniques, with a particular focus on unstructured grids. Additionally, a strong knowledge of observational data - both satellite and in situ - across scales from open ocean to coastal regions is desired.
