Description:
SUMMARY:
The Analyst-in-Training prepares and analyzes environmental samples using standard analytical techniques according to scientific and EPA methodology in compliance with GEL Laboratories LLC’s (GEL) Quality Assurance programs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science, preferably in a science discipline.
This is an entry level position, so no prior experience is required but related experience is certainly a plus.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Fundamental principles, practices and techniques of chemistry are a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to, WORD, EXCEL and other standard operating programs/systems
- Attention to detail and teamwork are key
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands outlined are representative of those that are required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Mobility to work in a lab and office setting
- Use of standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects
Work is performed in a laboratory setting which is subject to chemicals, and potential fumes, gasses, noxious odors and related items typical for this environment.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
- Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
- Demonstrates and supports GEL’s core values
- Follows written and verbal instructions
- Prepares samples for analysis based on SOPs
- Performs chemical testing based on SOPs
- Prepares all documentation associated with preparation and analysis of the samples
- Performs routine instrument maintenance as needed
- Maintains a work area stocked with the necessary materials, organized, and clean
- Ability to become trained and competent on complex instrumentation and instrument specific data systems
- Follows protocol for proper tracking and disposal of samples using set guidelines and instructions
- Performs other duties as assigned
