Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The City of Maple is seeking a highly organized, customer focused Bylaw Clerk in the Licenses & Bylaws Department. You will demonstrate great attention to detail with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively. This position involves dealing with the public where accuracy, patience, courtesy and tact are required when answering complaints and inquiries. The Bylaw Clerk is responsible for the administration and processing of business licensing, dog licensing and municipal tickets. This position deals with a high volume of e-mails and phone calls on a daily basis and excellent multi-tasking skills are essential in this position. Duties are performed in an office environment with frequent distractions, emotionally charged situations and dealing with potentially difficult customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the 12th school grade including or supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound related experience preferably in an inspectional and regulatory department, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of the departmental procedures, bylaws, rules and regulations related to the work.
- Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic and modern office practices and procedures.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff in supplying information and in explaining and interpreting bylaws and regulations as related to the work performed.
- Ability to perform typing and clerical assignments, and maintain files and records related to the work.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with established rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate common office equipment and a computer terminal.
