Description:
- Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to create nutritional programs based on the health needs of the residents.
- Consult with physicians and healthcare staff to determine nutritional needs of the residents
- Participate in menu development (new menu, seasonal menu )
- Document nutrition assessment, care plans & recommendations at each stage of the process
- Attend care conferences to provide input on resident’s nutritional status
- Monitor resident satisfaction with Food and Nutrition Services and respond to needs that may
- Assist with ensuring the production and service of attractive, nutritious meals for
- Advise on required changes, including equipment in Food and Nutrition
- Participate in and make recommendations at interdisciplinary care conferences or provide verbal or written input or delegate attendance to the Food Services Manager.
- Prepare monthly reports detailing clinical activities and submit to the client
- Performs other related duties as requested by manager
EDUCATION/PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Food & Nutrition from a university accredited by College of Dietitians of British Columbia
- Completion of one year of Dietetic Internship
- Current membership in the College of Dietitians of
- Two years’ experience working in a long-term care setting or with mental health clients preferred
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal amount of supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and in a changing work environment.
- Ability to empathize and work with people who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, and/or addictions issues, and/or those who may be living with HIV/AIDS or other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position such as capabilities which are compatible with walking, stopping, bending, and lifting heavy residents using effective and safe body mechanics.
- Knowledge of Mental Health standards and regulations and the ability to meet those standards an
