Description:
JOB OVERVIEW
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Senior GIS Analyst (Infrastructure) to join our team of professionals in the Information Technology Division, Geomatic Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Geomatics Services, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of technical and analytical functions related to the use of the Geographic Information System focusing on the administration of GIS infrastructure and databases.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a two-year diploma program in Computer Systems Technology from a recognized Institute of Technology, supplemented by completion of Spatial Information Systems post diploma program, preferably including course in municipal GIS, and considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Thorough knowledge of spatial information system standards, requirements, and techniques and of the requirements and applications of the departments using the graphic and non-graphic data
- Considerable knowledge of software programs and hardware components of a geomatics system
- Ability to coordinate the ongoing development, implementation and application of a corporate Geomatics System and to develop or adjust work priorities to meet changing deadlines or objectives
- Ability to research, evaluate and prepare recommendations regarding the development, acquisition and implementation of software and hardware related to a geomatics system
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to act as department’s representative on internal committees
- Experience with Asset Management systems such as Hansen/IPS is considered an asset
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online deployment is considered an asset
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the ongoing development and application of the corporate Geomatics System including assessing corporate and departmental information needs and recommending priorities and implementation strategies
- Consult with user departments, advise on system capabilities and coordinate data collection
- Establish data standards and operating procedures, and ensure that standards and procedures are followed
- Plan, assign and supervise the work of the Geomatic Services team and participate in recruitment, training and performance evaluation
- Develop and implement new and/or improved mapping and drafting methods, standards and practices and ensure that system changes are documented
- Act as project coordinator in all technical phases of system review or application, including the publication and distribution of cadastral, infrastructure, asset management and other spatially related information
- Represent the department on various internal committees and participate in corporate projects
- Establish and maintain effective communication with vendors, consultants, and other municipalities regarding Geomatics trends and developments
- Assist in operating and capital budget preparation and monitor operating costs
- Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, manuals, and related material
- Perform related work as required
