Description:
SUMMARY
Ensures the safe operation of a First Class Plant in an efficient manner, including leading the human resources on his/her shift. The position follows a 12-hour shift on rotation days and nights, usually averaging a total of 42 hours per week.
REQUIREMENTS
- Authorized to work in Canada;
- Valid (TSSA Certified) 2nd Class Operating Engineer ticket is mandatory. Consideration will be given to candidates with a 3rd Class ticket, currently working towards achieving their 2nd class;
- Good mechanical comprehension required;
- At least ten (10) years of experience as an Operating Engineer with supervisory experience in an industrial setting or a power plant is desired.

Responsibilities:
- Assists and enables 3rd Class operators to complete site-specific training programs;
- Performs testing of Power Plant equipment; maintains and cleans Plant machinery, equipment and building during operations;
- Ensures facility physical security (including perimeter security);
- Ensures guest management (access card management, key register, guest book), provide communication to the guests, ensure orientations have been followed;
- Monitors and enforces proper radio usage and etiquette.
- Ensures plant continuous deliverables, understands and maintains contractual KPIs.
- Ensures plant housekeeping. Interact with stakeholders such as outsourced cleaners, operating engineers, maintenance engineers and subcontractors to ensure proper cleanliness.
- Manages CMMS tickets coming in on his/her shift. Communicates with clientele and make every effort to complete repairs and/or requests on shift, if possible.
- Plans and manages 3rd Class operator tasks while on shift.
- Coordinates with Plant Chief and other management for tasks given to Maintenance Engineers.
- Understands and supervises tasks being done by subcontractors in the plant. Evaluates operational impacts for all tasks being done.
- Understands contractual obligations toward the Authority and makes every effort possible to ensure Equans respects its contract.
- Understands contracts with service providers and manages service calls to issues arising on shift;
- Ensures proper reporting of deficiencies.
- Ensures communication to Plant Chief and other management, including reporting incidents, potential risks, potential KPI non-compliance.
- Ensures proper chemical tests are being completed and logged and make any required adjustment.
- Maintains chemical supplies and testing equipment inventory.
- Understands and applies all official Equans procedures.
- Ensures shift schedule is up-to-date, manage replacement strategies upon unplanned leave;
- Provides assistance to other Equans plants if needed.
- Monitors User Building utilities status and report any abnormalities.
- Ensures proper DCS functioning, manages and reports any required change and/or repair.
- Monitors personal emails, operations emails and operations calendar.
- Keep employees informed on all pertinent flowing or new information.
- As per applicable regulations and during his/her hours of work/shifts, must execute required operations and maintain performances of the Plant machinery & equipment.
- Performs start-up procedure; receives information relevant to previous shift; sets up charts on meters, controls and related systems, Participates, adheres to, and fully complies with, the Company’s Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures and regulatory requirements.
