Under the direction of the Nurse Manager of Surgical Services the Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for the activities of the Sterile Processing department,:

  • Collaborating with the development and enhancement of the following:
  • Written policies and procedures
  • Implementation of new policies and procedures
  • Instruments and count sheets in tracking system
  • Loaner tray check-in/checkout process
  • Barcode scanning case carts to OR rooms
  • Compliance and readiness for The Joint Commission
  • Organize and provide staff education
  • Repair of instruments leaving the facility
  • Act as point person for OR Heads of Service to maintain, update and develop instrument trays
  • Facilitate Surgeon success by maintaining tray integrity
  • Act as point of contact for priority tray turnovers
  • Assign and monitor daily staff duties and productivity
  • Order daily supplies for unit
  • Maintain par levels for supplies
  • Maintain organization in the storage area of SPD
  • Maintain instrument inventory
  • Order new and replacement instruments
  • Lead daily huddles
  • Collect and enter quality metrics into tracking system
  • Enhance the daily utilization of Censtirac’s key features

Education/Other Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have current BLS certification
  • Must be certified in sterile processing either CSPDT or CRCST. CHL certification is preferred
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician Program or Graduate of an Operating Room Technician Course.
  • Physically able to push or pull up to 125 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds using appropriate body mechanics.
