Description:

EDUCATION:

Must possess a current 3rd Class Operating Engineer’s Certificate in the Province of Ontario (3rd Class standardized/inter-provincial certificate preferred). Must hold a valid Ontario G class driver’s license in good standing. Substantial progress towards the 2nd Class Operating Engineer’s Certificate is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) months experience as an operating shift engineer or equivalent experience in shift and maintenance. Experience as a 3rd class operating shift engineer preferred. Experience in operating a Cogeneration Plant is an asset. Maintenance experience is an asset. Demonstrated ability in the operation of plant and equipment. Demonstrated ability in trouble shooting, diagnosing, and correcting malfunctioning of various types of equipment and controls encountered in the Utilities unit. Demonstrated ability to weld and cut. Gas turbine cogeneration experience would be considered an asset.

SKILLS:

Must possess a sound knowledge of the operation of high voltage (up to 27.6kV) power distribution systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain water mains, fire hydrants, high pressure steam reducing systems, electrical and pneumatic controls, electrical substation switch gear, and chilled water systems. Must possess leadership qualities. Must possess the ability to get on well with others and work closely with the Maintenance Trades Group. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
