Serco Maritime have an exciting opportunity for a 3rd Engineer to join the Out of Port Operations team in Greenock.
As the 3rd Engineer, your key purpose will be to maintain a Watch in line with company/ vessel procedures and in doing so maintain an environment which is without risk to the health and safety of engine room staff, other crew members and the environment.
Reporting to the Vessel Master (whilst on board) and the Senior Operations Controller, you will maintain regular contact with the Crew, Operations Controller and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:

To make/ receive an appropriate handover at the start/ end of each Watch.
Carry out planned maintenance schedule tasks as assigned by 2nd Engineer (not limited to but including following systems - propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, air conditioning, domestic installations, boilers, fittings and structures both within and out with the machinery room spaces.
Prepare the main/auxiliary machinery required for voyages, testing all essential equipment, alarms, shutdowns as directed.
Shutdown the main/auxiliary systems at the end of a voyage as directed.
Assist during bunkering operations.
Ensure machinery and machinery area is kept as clean as possible, with engine room stairs, ladders and walkways kept clear at all times.
To liaise with the other members of the ship’s staff/embarked clients in order to give feedback and early warning to the Chief/Second Engineer concerning any practice, item of plant or machinery which might be a potential hazard.
To be fully conversant with the use of all safety equipment, emergency procedures and contingency plans.
Be familiar with all safety routines and ensure necessary safeguards are in place before any maintenance/repair work commences.
Fully conversant with company Safety Management System- specifically: Permit to Work/Tag Out Systems
To understudy the Second Engineer so that, in the event of illness or accident, they may take over the day-to-day responsibility of the Engine Room temporarily.
To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Chief Engineer/Second Engineer.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO DO THE ROLE:

MCA Certificate of Competency as Engineer Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) as a minimum
STCW Personal Survival Techniques (5 Year Refresher Course)
STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (5 Year Refresher Course)
STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (5 Year Refresher Course)
STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (5 Year Refresher Course)
STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (5 Year Refresher Course)
STCW Elementary First Aid

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS/FEATURES OF THE ROLE:

Must be able to obtain Security Clearance
SDP Maintenance Course (SDNR only)
TMCC Maintenance Course (SDVIC only)
