Description:

JOB TITLE: Abattoir Chargehand
JOB PURPOSE: To assist the Abattoir Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coach line workers, organise job rotation and assist on daily training.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment in line with safe systems of work.
  • Liaise with quality to investigate customer issues regarding quality.
  • Identify issues in efficiency and suggest improvements.
  • To ensure that Health & Safety and other relevant guidelines are duly adhered to including the operation of safe systems of work, i.e. PPE, knife control, machine safety controls.
  • To assist the supervisors and management at all times on a daily basis.
  • To maintain a clean and efficient work environment.
  • To carry out duties such as cleaning to get the site audit ready.
  • To help supervisors organise possible overtime on a daily basis and Saturday work.
  • To assist HR and the supervisors on HR duties such as failure to present and RTW on a daily basis.
  • To assist Technical on a daily basis and to get a good understanding of the quality of the product, specification and labelling of products.
  • To cover for Supervisors when needs be, especially at break times and when the supervisor is carrying out other daily duties.
  • Ensure adherence to all company Policies.
  • Ensure all KPI’s are met and are accurate.

Core KPIs:

  • KPI’s will be set out and reviewed by the Site Manager for each period defined (month / quarter / year) reflecting achievement of agreed objectives and initiatives.
  • Meeting Reporting Deadlines.
  • Adherence to Group Policies and Procedures.
  • Audit Results (Internal and External).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate a team, to be energetic and self-motivated
  • Organisation and leadership abilities.
  • Must have a can do attitude and be flexible at all times
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives and ability to challenge status quo. Problem solving skills.
  • Strong IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and other common software tools.
  • A high level of analytical, methodology and time management skills required.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
