Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of EHSS, the Abilities and Wellness Specialist is responsible for the management of occupational and non-occupational disability claims with a focus on stay at work abilities and return to work strategies. The Abilities and Wellness Specialist will support the company return to work policies and programs for both occupational and non-occupational disability claims. The Specialist acts to reduce health care costs, maximize productivity and will have responsibilities in health, safety and claims management.
Your Responsibilities:
- WSIB Claims Management and RTW support
- Manage claims including filing of claims with WSIB and all relevant follow-ups, with attention to time sensitive reporting requirements.
- Manage complex workers compensation claims, challenges and appeals at the workers compensation board level.
- Serve as first point of contact with employees and notify them of WSIB process.
- Maintain regular contact with employees on leave and provide update to management on RTW.
- Act as a subject matter expert to assist site operations teams, HR and Health & Safety with early and safe return to work for employees on workers compensation or STD/LTD, WSIB and treating practitioners.
- Develop graduated return to work plans, with the assistance of supervisors, for both occupational and non-occupational disability claims, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, specific to the individuals’ medical needs and work environment.
- Provide supervisors, managers, timely information regarding status and return to work timeline.
- Develop and implement training materials for operations teams, and identified internal stakeholders on processes, best practices, awareness/education materials for employees.
- Maintain database to track all claims and case management metrics/KPIs and provide reporting to site leadership as required.
- Coordinate and lead RTW planning meetings with WSIB and employee as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical files/documentation and disclosure in compliance with the Personal Health Information and Protection Act (PHIPA).Ergonomics
- Manage a proactive Ergonomics program in compliance with Rockwell Automation standards.
- Review/update PDAs and ergonomic assessments
- Provide general job coaching on the shop floor outlining safe practices and essential duties
- Monitor worker conditioning through changes in job role or function
- Develop and deliver proactive educational programs
- Represent the site in the corporate Ergonomics Best Practice Team
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Legal authorization to work in CAN is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Degree in a related health-related discipline (e.g. Reg. Kinesiologist, Ergonomist) or a relevant related field preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience in the disability management field
- Experience in preparing return to work plans
- Strong knowledge of best practices in Disability Management including early & safety return to work
- Working knowledge of medical conditions, recovery guidelines, and resulting restrictions/impact on function.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and professionalism.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation such as WSIB, OHSA, including Human Rights Legislation
