ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Liverpool Hospital, situated on the lands of the Dharawal, Darug, and Gundungurra peoples, maintains a strong commitment to cultural sensitivity and collaboration with local Aboriginal organisations.
As part of this commitment, the hospital is currently seeking a Male Aboriginal Liaison Officer to join its team. The role involves facilitating access to hospital services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families, ensuring they receive culturally responsive care throughout their hospitalisation and treatment journey.
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to address the needs of Aboriginal patients, providing support, advocacy, and cultural mentoring to both patients and healthcare professionals.
Additionally, they will play a pivotal role in service development, representing the interests of Aboriginal communities on various committees and working parties, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing culturally responsive healthcare delivery within Liverpool Hospital and the broader South Western Sydney Local Health District.

Responsibilities:
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients/carers/consumers in hospital settings. The position is required to work as part of the hospital multidisciplinary team in order to:
- ensure the health, psychosocial and cultural needs of Aboriginal patients and their families/carers are taken into account when care is being provided.
- support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families/carers to build their health literacy and capacity to manage their health issues.
The ALO is required to work effectively with staff of the hospital and other agencies including local Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and related community based services, in order to provide support and assistance to patients/carers/consumers receiving care from the hospital and community health services.
The position is also responsible for supporting effective transfer of care arrangements for Aboriginal patients to ensure they are linked to appropriate community based services.
