Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor engages in collaborative practices to enhance the development, progression and retention of Langara College students by providing high-quality academic guidance. The position supports students through their student journey at Langara College, advising on program options, addressing academic difficulties and referring them to resources both within the college and the community. The Academic Advisor is integral to the Academic Advising team and works collaboratively with colleagues in assisting students to successfully navigate through required programs and/or courses for academic success.
The Academic Advisor works with an assigned portfolio of students across Langara’s academic programs to case manage and is a customer facing position that serves students daily through in-person, telephone, videoconferencing, and email. The position also acts as a liaison for students with internal and external departments and other post-secondary institutions. The advisor regularly interacts with units across campus and within Registrar and Enrolment Services (RES) to ensure effective delivery of service to students and is a part of a network of service professionals throughout the College that collectively contribute to improving the experience of Langara’s students.
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or in a relevant field required
- Two (2) years of related experience providing one-on-one and group consultative support and advising to students, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Experience accessing and using an integrated student information system.
- Knowledge of BC post-secondary system, policy and procedures, programs and some limited registration processes.

- Able to exercise judgement, diplomacy, tact, and discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Acuity with technology: Intermediate to advanced levels, Office 365, Outlook Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Surveys, etc. PC and Mac systems
