POSITION SUMMARY

Evoke Learning is seeking a certified academic and writing skills coach with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) expertise to join our team as a part-time independent contractor. This role focuses on empowering neurodiverse students (Grades 4–8) by integrating CBT principles with ADHD and executive function coaching.
As a coach, you will provide one-to-one virtual support, helping students develop writing strategies, organizational skills, time management, and academic planning. You will also introduce assistive technology to enhance writing and executive function abilities.
We are looking for a skilled professional—certified teacher, social worker, or paraprofessional—who understands the unique challenges of neurodiverse learners and fosters their growth through patience, encouragement, and research-informed strategies. This role requires initiative, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: Master’s degree in social work, psychology, occupational therapy, education, or a related field (required).
  2. Certification: Formal training (minimum 40 hours) and certification in CBT and/or related modalities (required).
  3. Experience:
    · At least one year of professional, successful teaching or related experience.
    · Experience teaching or tutoring academic writing to elementary students.
    · Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, ASD, and executive dysfunction.
    · Experience with online teaching.
  4. Skills:
    · Strong knowledge of writing strategies, writing processes, and writing conventions.
    · Proven ability to provide student-centred support.
    · Working knowledge of executive function skills (organization, planning, time management).
    · Skilled listener with empathy and diplomacy.
    · Familiarity with the Ontario English curriculum.
    · Well-organized and punctual.
  5. Technology:
    · Experience with assistive technology tools to support writing and communication.
    · Assistive technology certification (asset).
  6. Language: English fluency (required).
  7. Additional Assets:
    · OCT certification.
    · MSW or related postgraduate degree/certificate.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish a positive learning environment to foster student engagement and success.
  • Virtually teach neurodiverse elementary students (Grades 4–8) Evoke’s research-informed writing and learning strategies, executive function skills, and assistive technology use.
  • Co-create personalized SMART goals and action plans by analyzing student performance and identifying barriers to academic success.
  • Follow the student’s service plan to meet individual goals and needs.
  • Provide one-to-one virtual tutoring sessions to enhance academic writing skills through engaging and effective support.
  • Teach research-informed academic writing strategies, including outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
  • Provide feedback on written assignments and assist students in developing their writing skills.
  • Teach reading and note-taking strategies, incorporating assistive technology to optimize learning.
  • Support the development of executive function skills, such as organization, planning, and time management.
  • Assist students in self-advocacy and accessing accommodations or resources.
  • Monitor and document student progress using Evoke’s progress tools and maintain up-to-date records of contact, growth, and performance.
  • Provide weekly written feedback to families and keep Evoke informed about student progress.
  • Participate in orientation to Evoke materials to ensure understanding of programming and the confidentiality of all records.
