The Maritime College of Forest Technology (MCFT) was established in 1946 primarily to retrain and reintegrate returning World War II Veterans into the workforce. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
As an Academic Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to educating, training, mentoring and preparing students for the transition to enter a natural resources related profession. Field related instruction and/or assistance will require ability to work safely in both remote and physically demanding conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified Forestry Professional with a diploma and/or degree in Forestry – eligible for certification/registration as a Forestry Professional in New Brunswick.
- Operating knowledge of technologies used in today’s natural resource sectors including work experience in forestry, fish and wildlife management, forest fire protection, natural resources, forest ecology, forest entomology and pathology and plant identification.
- Confident leadership with a passion for instructing/tutoring.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in advanced computer application (including field-based Geomatics).
- Effective field technical instruction skills.
- Written and spoken competence in English is essential.
- Hold a valid Class 4 NB driver’s license or be willing to obtain.
- Willing to obtain a criminal record check.
Additional Strengths:
- Direct work experience in forestry operations (i.e. silviculture, timber harvesting, forest roads, forest products transportation).
- Direct work experience operating small equipment in forestry and or arboricultural operations (i.e. chainsaws, brushsaws, etc.).
- Direct work experience operating heavy equipment.
- Certificate in Adult Education.
- Previous experience working in an adult learning environment.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Academic Chair, you are responsible to:
- Deliver course content and evaluation.
- Plan and prepare instructional materials for both classroom and field lectures.
- Work in a safe and physically demanding field environment.
- Provide a professional and positive learning environment for all students.
- Encourage and assist students to achieve their educational goals.
- As a member of the Faculty team, assist in the delivery of additional courses related to the curriculum and compliment a team-oriented, fast-paced, work environment.
