MŌ TE TŪNGA | ABOUT THE ROLE

ACADEMIC STAFF MEMBER - Interior Décor
We are looking for someone to add value to the Interior Décor delivery team in a part-time (0.6 FTE), 12-month fixed-term role. You will be joining an existing programme facilitator who teaches across the New Zealand Certificate in Interior Décor (Level 4).
This position is an academic delivery role, where you will be teaching students within our Interior Décor programme on our online platform. You will have strong skills and experience in the history of décor-focused interior design; interior design building blocks; interior design communication methods and conventions (visual and verbal); and the physical components of interior décor.

You will be responsible for:

  • Teaching courses in the Open Distance Flexible Learning (ODFL) modality utilising interactive technology and best practice professional standards for online distance learning
  • Providing feedback on course materials and assessments as required
  • Using innovative technology and appropriate interactive teaching strategies to facilitate student learning
  • Providing students with targeted and specific support that develops their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter
  • Working collaboratively within a team environment, that includes our contracted marking workforce, student mentors and other teaching staff
  • Providing feedback to Programme Delivery Managers on course and programme delivery matters
  • Building on your research portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in interior design and décor
  • A relevant qualification in this area (at least Level 5 or above)
  • Good research capabilities
  • High level of skill using computers, Microsoft applications and SketchUp / CAD software
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A high level of integrity, judgement, flexibility, self-motivation and responsiveness
  • Passion for education

While adult education teaching qualifications are desirable, they are not essential for applying, as you can work towards these while undertaking the role.
