Responsibilities:
II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Develops and implements an instructional program which meets the needs of the academically gifted students.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs a program that meets the individual needs of students by developing an appropriate Individualized Education Program in accordance with State Department of Education guidelines.
- Contacts parents, regular classroom teachers, administrators, and other appropriate personnel to participate in the development of the Individualized Education Program within specified timelines.
- Prepares and implements daily lesson plans to meet individual needs of students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of individual students.
- Plans instructional program with other faculty as appropriate.
- Administers tests and other diagnostic instruments to identify levels of functioning.
- Assesses student progress on a regular basis and sends progress reports to parents with report cards.
- Completes all reports and paperwork accurately and within prescribed timelines. Maintains records as required by local, state and federal policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Implements the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching in all teaching-learning situations.
- Participates in in-service training as well as other professional growth and development activities.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and school board policies.
- Attends faculty meetings, parent/teacher meetings, and other school functions as required.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

Supervision
- Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
- Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
- Supervision of students in the classroom
- Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assembliesSupervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned
Non-instructional Components
- Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
- Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
- Attend training sessions
- Attend IEP meetings
- Attend parent-teacher conferences
- Attend back-to-school and open-house events
- Attend graduation
- Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearingsAttend school board/committee meetings, upon request
Extracurricular Activities
- Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designeeAttend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
