The Accessibility Coordinator, reporting to the Manager of Learning Services, plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive learning environment through partnerships, proactive case management, and strategic use of accessibility resources and technology. This position leads the delivery of accessibility services within Learning Services at NAIT, coordinating and implementing accommodations for students with disabilities.
Supervising a team of accessibility and administrative professionals, the Accessibility Coordinator ensures that services are provided effectively and adhere to standards, policies, and procedures. This role addresses both operational and systemic accessibility barriers affecting students, recommending improvements to processes, operations, and policies.
Additionally, the Accessibility Coordinator develops and implements best practices that align with accessibility principles and Human Rights legislation. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple accessibility-related projects efficiently while reporting to department leadership.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to autonomously organize, coordinate, and manage multiple projects related to accessibility in a timely and efficient manner, including the delivery of assistive services such as sign language interpretation
Excellent communication skills, including conflict resolution and adaptive communication styles
Proficient knowledge of assistive technology devices and software, including emerging artificial intelligence
Advanced computer skills and experience using learning management, workflow, customer relationship management and other administrative systems (e.g. Brightspace, PeopleSoft, ServiceNow)
Thorough knowledge of accessibility principles, learning and disability theories, accessibility standards and universal design for learning principles
Detailed knowledge of accessibility legislation, compliance standards, and best practices in accessibility and disability services such as sign language interpretation and live captioning
Understanding and experience of project and change management principles and skills
Knowledge and experience with data tracking, management, and analysis

QUALIFICATIONS:

A post-secondary degree in Education, Social work, Disability Studies, Psychology, Sociology, or a related discipline is required (master’s preferred)
Extensive (5 or more years) related professional experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role
Preference is given to candidates with experience in an adult educational setting, particularly if the experience includes working with students with disabilities
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $77,938.12 - $104,496.86 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Advisor/Specialist lll).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.

Responsibilities:

Oversee and implement accessibility standards and requirements in alignment with legislation, compliance standards, and institutional policies
Support the development of accessibility strategic initiatives, including research on best practices, and monitor quality control within Learning Services
Collaborate with internal and external partners (including program leadership) to identify and address accessibility barriers impacting student learning
Identify operational & systemic issues and barriers related to accessibility; make recommendations for solutions; plan implementation
Raise accessibility awareness and provide training and guidance to staff, faculty, and students, fostering an inclusive environment
Provide direct supervision within Learning Services and coordinate staff working on accessibility initiatives, planning to meet strategic goals
Coordination and oversight of accessibility services and supports, including external contractors, vendors, and funding sources
Coordinate and maintain accessibility technology and assistive software, liaising with IT and procurement as needed
Explore new accessibility technologies supporting UDL and recommend enhancements for service and program delivery
Act as a subject matter expert for NAIT to facilitate accommodations and implement accessibility initiatives
Conduct training sessions on accessibility best practices, inclusive teaching strategies, and adaptive technology for the NAIT community
Maintain data on service usage, accommodation effectiveness, and satisfaction, preparing reports for management and external audits
Support the manager with budget planning, resource allocation, and administrative tasks related to accessibility initiatives
Professional development and other responsibilities as determined by operational needs
