QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a 2 year college diploma and 2-3 years’ experience effectively working with people with a disability. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A certification through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Practiced in researching and analyzing findings in order to produce recommendations in a formal report.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability to review/interpret drawings and advise from an accessibility perspective, as well as associated accessibility standard guidelines such as the Ontario Building Code, the City of Guelph Facility Accessibility Design Manual, Canadian Standards Association’s Annex H.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the public.
  • Ability to prepare presentations and present to committees and staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a demanding environment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Travel within the City to carry out duties of the position is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Corporate accessibility policy development , plan documents and guidelines, including those required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Review and evaluate Civil and architectural drawings for City projects and as part of the Site Plan Review process, which includes meeting with the Corporate Accessibility Advisory Committee, to ensure compliance with current accessibility standards outlined in the AODA, OBC and CSA.
  • Consult and liaise with employees to support and provide expert advice on issues related to accessibility.
  • Co-Liaison and support to the Accessibility Advisory Committee.
  • Support the delivery of programming under the guidance of the Specialist. Work includes recruitment and training of volunteers, delivering and maintaining programs and producing recommendations for projects.
  • Support committees in their endeavors through administration tasks such as arranging meetings, supporting meeting attendees, producing meeting minutes, represent committee recommendations during staff meetings, engaging committee members to encourage their ownership of the program.
  • Access research findings on best/new practices and assist with the preparation of reports/ documents.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
