Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Education, Accessibility Studies, or a related field, or certification in accessibility.
  • At least three years of experience as an accessibility specialist or in a similar role.
  • Proven expertise in accessibility standards, including WCAG and familiarity with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, Fusion, and Kurzweil 3000.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state laws pertaining to accessibility (e.g., ADA, Section 508).
  • Working knowledge of HTML, cascading style sheets, scripting interaction with the HTML document object model, and user-centered design.
  • Experience critiquing vendor Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs).
  • Experience developing, executing, and reporting on accessibility testing use cases and scripts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and guide diverse stakeholder groups on accessibility-related matters, work cross-functionally with diverse teams, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility within the workplace.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Oversees the centralized activities of campus-based services and programs, serves as a subject matter expert and campus liaison, and participates in university wide campus-based committees and initiatives
  • Develops operational plans and programs to ensure inclusiveness and awareness as well as compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies in partnership with internal and external parties
  • Manages creation and implementation of University-wide program standards, educational/professional development activities and performance assessment systems
  • Collects and analyzes relevant program and outcomes data, (tracking usage, satisfaction with initiatives, and impact on student retention and success)
  • Prepares relevant reports based on program activities and services, and develops other related communications
  • Manages and trains staff
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to ensure compliance with New York State and Federal accessibility standards.
  • Assess and ensure accessibility compliance of all digital resources, including websites, software, and online course materials.
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG and other accessibility standards and review accessibility prior to providing recommendations for technology acquisition.
  • Serve as a member of the Accommodation Review and Response Team, collaborating with stakeholders to review and implement reasonable accommodations related to digital accessibility.
  • Work with technical teams to identify and remediate accessibility concerns, ensuring alignment with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Lead training sessions for faculty and staff on accessibility best practices, assistive technologies, and related procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of accessibility initiatives, tracking and reporting on changes and progress to meet state and federal regulations, audits, and/or legal claims.
  • Manage reasonable accommodation requests and related processes, and support resolution for any concerns related to digital accessibility University-wide
