Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team in Perth. As an Accountant at AAAC Towing, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s financial operations, preparing and analyzing financial reports, conducting budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management. This role is critical in supporting the operational and strategic decisions of the business and ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the company.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential.
  • CPA/CA qualification or working toward professional certification (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or senior management role.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Experience with payroll systems and statutory reporting.
  • Key Competencies:
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to ensure accuracy in financial data.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Financial Operations:
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the company’s financial operations, ensuring that the accounting records are accurate, complete, and compliant with Australian Accounting Standards and regulations.
  • Supervise day-to-day financial processes, ensuring that accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger are performed efficiently and accurately.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare, analyse, and present timely and accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Provide detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for operational improvements or cost control.
  • Support senior management with financial insights to guide decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the company’s budgeting and forecasting activities by working closely with management to develop comprehensive annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
  • Prepare detailed financial forecasts and monitor performance against budget, making recommendations for improvements where necessary.
  • Advise management on key financial assumptions and ensure alignment with business goals and market conditions.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Australian tax laws and regulations, including preparation and lodgment of BAS, GST, PAYG, and other statutory returns.
  • Ensure adherence to Australian Accounting Standards and other applicable industry regulations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to audit queries.
  • Collaboration and Process Improvement:
  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and improve overall financial efficiency.
  • Review existing accounting procedures and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Work with other teams to ensure proper financial controls are in place, minimizing risk and ensuring business continuity.
  • Strategic Financial Guidance:
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and recommendations to senior management, helping to shape the company’s financial and operational strategies.
  • Assist in evaluating investment opportunities, financial risks, and new business initiatives from a financial perspective.
  • Support decision-making through financial modelling, scenario analysis, and providing actionable insights based on financial data.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:
  • Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes, ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions.
  • Manage collections for overdue accounts and maintain strong professional relationships with suppliers and clients.
  • Payroll Administration:
  • Supervise payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, with all necessary deductions, benefits, and superannuation contributions processed according to applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and tax requirements.
  • Cash Flow Management:
  • Monitor and manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations and upcoming expenses.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts, providing strategic insights to management regarding cash flow positioning.
  • Internal Controls and Process Efficiency:
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard the company’s financial assets.
  • Review and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting practices to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with company objectives.
