POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a highly respected team within the Group Finance function at a particularly important time for CRH as the Group has fully transitioned its primary listing to the New York Stock Exchange (‘NYSE’). The Accounting Advisory team is the Group’s U.S. GAAP & IFRS accounting function, partnering with senior stakeholders across a range of teams in CRH Group, CRH divisional offices and the operations to provide practical solutions to accounting complexities.
The Accounting Advisory Team forms part of the External Reporting function at CRH and is a high performing team with a diverse range of backgrounds, skills, and experience.
The work of the Accounting Advisory Team provides exciting opportunities to build a wide network of relationships across CRH functions and locations; access to a wide variety of challenging and interesting work adding value for key senior stakeholders across the Group; to develop project management and decision-making skills; to refine judgement capabilities and continual learning.
The team is a valued business partner that supports the business development and tax teams to determine the optimal structures for deals; supports local finance teams in preparing opening balance sheets for newly acquired businesses; presents at internal conferences and delivers training; and which respond to ad-hoc U.S. GAAP and IFRS queries across the Group as they arise. Project-based work includes preparing the Group for changes in accounting policies and developing/maintaining the Group accounting manual in conjunction with key stakeholders.
During quarterly external reporting cycles, the team is involved in reviewing financial reporting pack submissions; preparing financial statement notes and journals; and completing disclosure checklists.
The opportunity is for an assistant manager role, as a key senior member of the Accounting Advisory Team, supporting the managers with more complex tasks and projects and acting as a coach and mentor to junior members of the team. This key role will provide opportunities and possibility for organization-wide relationships as a key business partner to our stakeholders, both internal and external.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

You are/have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting or related field of study;
  • Qualified accountant with a strong financial accounting background essential (U.S. CPA preferred);
  • Minimum 5 years of PQE;
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting standards under U.S. GAAP is essential and a working knowledge of IFRS is preferred;
  • Prior experience working with a U.S. listed company reporting under U.S. GAAP is preferred;
  • Experience in business combinations, financial instruments, consolidation, and divestment accounting is advantageous.

Responsibilities:

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Involved in developing the Group accounting manual under U.S. GAAP/IFRS;
  • Contributing to the team’s quarterly external reporting tasks;
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members;
  • Resolving U.S. GAAP/IFRS accounting queries with colleagues, including the internal monthly reporting, internal audit, tax, and treasury teams, along with divisional and operational and finance teams;
  • Involved in presenting accounting matters to a range of teams across the Group, Divisional and operating companies;
  • Involved in assessing the U.S. GAAP/IFRS accounting implications of potential transactions and providing practical solutions to accounting issues;
  • Acting as a business partner to different functions across the Group including Strategy & Development, divisional and operational finance teams, sustainability, innovation & venturing, procurement, technical services etc;
  • Supporting newly acquired businesses to align with U.S. GAAP, IFRS and CRH’s accounting policies; andf
  • Driving continuous process improvement initiatives.
