The Opportunity
This is a great opportunity to join our fast-growing, dynamic Financial Accounting & Advisory Services (FAAS) team. This role is based in Dublin, and you will be part of a 300+ person team who specialize in providing compliance, accounting and BPO services to large corporates and multi nationals.
This is a high profile position. It involves working closely with Partners and other senior personnel within Grant Thornton, but also with key finance people in both publicly listed companies and multinational environments.
The FAAS Accounting Advisory team are a group of proactive accounting specialists who are focused on providing practical solutions to our clients’ complex financial reporting issues. Our ‘on call’ ethos means we are able to respond quickly to fast moving business processes and timelines – whether assisting with advice related to transactions or working to tight financial close deadlines.
This role will suit an ambitious motivated person who is willing and interested in getting involved with helping the team. It involves working closely with Partners and other senior personnel within Grant Thornton but also with key people from our multinational client base
You will be responsible for:
- Providing practical accounting advice to clients (in the form of written papers and/or by way of oral communication) on a variety of technical accounting issues such as group reorganisations, business combinations, share options, lease accounting and complex financial instruments;
- Staying updated with changes in accounting standards and regulatory and legislation requirements and advising on their implications on clients in our target market;
- Providing guidance on the application of accounting requirements under IFRS, Irish & UK GAAP and US GAAP, including impact assessment on GAAP conversion;
- Reviewing financial statements and disclosures to ensure compliant financial reporting;
- Supporting other FAAS service lines by providing technical advice and resolving any issues related to accounting policies and financial statements
- Identifying new business opportunities and working with internal contacts to convert leads and opportunities into projects;
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior finance personnel;
- Managing and coaching junior team members;
- Working closely with other Grant Thornton departments, such as Tax and Corporate Finance, to provide accounting advice in relation to group reorganisation projects or business combinations and valuation models for example to address cross-functional accounting issues; and
- Promoting FAAS both internally and externally, articulating all FAAS services and the value that we bring to our clients, and representing FAAS at relevant technical seminars.
Desired Skills and Experience
You will have the following experience:
- Committed to relationship development and able to identify opportunities to deliver the best value;
- A genuine interest in financial reporting issues and able to demonstrate how they keep abreast of changes in the financial reporting arena;
- Experience in drafting technical accounting papers to support a conclusion/accounting treatment within a complex area either in an audit capacity or otherwise;
- Good communicator, highly articulate with excellent report writing skills;
- A passion for client service;
- Ability to learn quickly and keep abreast of the latest developments in financial
- Strong management skills;
- Recognised accounting qualification;
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in dealing with technical accounting issues in a plc or equivalent organisation, either in Practice or Industry in areas including share options, complex financial instruments and business combinations; andA strong knowledge of IFRS, Irish/UK GAAP (including FRS 100 – 105), Irish/UK company law, US GAAP (desirable).
