We are currently recruiting an Accounting Lead for our Dartmouth, NS location. This position is located in the office on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Lead is responsible for directing the day-to-day workflow of the accounting department, answering questions, and assisting with issues. This also extends to streamlining processes, ensuring compliance with both internal and external policies, and the timely completion of the month-end and year-end activities. The job requires working in a fast-paced, structured environment with clear expectations and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Although quick decision-making is necessary, this candidate must ensure that all work meets established quality standards and that any new ideas are carefully analyzed before implementation.

You have the ability to work both individually and as part of a team, while always demonstrating a positive and enthusiastic attitude. You excel at interpersonal relations and are comfortable reaching out to a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the workflow of the accounting department team and provide advise on any challenges that arise.
  • Assist the controller with the month end close process and production of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage and reconcile daily banking and cash management operations.
  • Provide guidance to team on handling non-routine transactions and investigate and correct accounting irregularities and errors.
  • Analyze data and produce management reports.
  • Provide training (new policies, procedures, tasks and software) and ongoing support for new and existing employees.
  • Back up and assist accounts receivable and payables during busy times, vacations, or other absences.
  • Collaborate with department managers to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze departmental workflows to enhance efficiency and resource utilization while maintaining accuracy.
  • Advise on new procedures and processes to improve departmental workflows.

Required knowledge and training includes:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience managing full-cycle accounting duties, including a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structures.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to focus & meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
