The Opportunity
The Accounting Manager role will manage Synaptive’s day-to-day accounting operations, including the general ledger and the month-end close processes, as well as supervising and directing the work of two senior accountants and two accounts payable specialists. The Accounting Manager will ensure precise and timely reporting of financial information in compliance with IFRS, and will facilitate monthly close requirements and consolidation procedures, diligently reviewing the direct report’s work. This role is responsible for overseeing general accounting, treasury, tax filings, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll accounting. This position will lead and develop talent to maximize individual, team, and organizational effectiveness, fostering a culture of engagement. The position is for a minimum of seven months, with the possibility of an extension. This is a hybrid role in Toronto, Canada – office/remote work.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain and oversee monthly and quarterly close procedures, including preparing/reviewing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, and analysing the income statement in accordance with IFRS and company policies
  • Maintain the general ledger, including accounts, department, and project codes
  • Provide management and leadership to the general accounting and accounts payable team
  • Oversee key treasury tasks - cash, bank and corporate credit card account management, including wire and ACH payment transactions
  • Perform procure-to-pay tasks, including vendor management and corporate credit card and expense re-imbursement management
  • Review payroll bi-weekly
  • Ensure documentation is compiled and maintained to support regulatory and audit requirements
  • Collaborate with various accounting and finance team members, cross-functional departments, and vendors to achieve monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc deliverables
  • Prepare month-end financial statements; and helps prepare footnote support
  • Financial statement review related to statutory reporting of subsidiaries
  • Assists with the year-end financial audits
  • Month end close improvements/streamlining, policy and procedure improvements
  • Assist with preparation of management, audit committee and board financial reports
  • Assist with special projects as needed

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related major is required
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, including Big 4 public accounting experience
  • Experience with IFRS accounting standards
  • Strong hands-on experience with NetSuite, Concur, Dayforce/Ceridian
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct staff of accounting professionals
  • Accountable for results and understanding of the financial impact of decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively to all levels
