Responsibilities:
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing daily accounting operations, producing financial reports, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and providing support to the Controller for Cancoil Thermal Corporation and its associated companies.
DUTIES
- Lead and mentor the accounting team (AP and AR), ensure proper delegation, prioritization and oversight of tasks.
- Foster a culture of cross training and task rotation to reduce reliance on sole individuals for vacation coverage etc.
- Oversee accounts receivable and supplier accounts, ensuring accurate and timely processing. Assist with accounts that require escalation.
- Oversee cash management by the team, ensuring that all cash is posted and applied to subledgers daily, reconciling credit card merchant accounts and posting transactions.
- Review cheques, EFTs, bill payments and wires to suppliers to ensure accuracy, proper control, and segregation of duty.
- Report on the operations (AR and AP) to the Controller on a weekly basis.
- Oversee and track prepaid expenses, fixed assets, loan schedules, depreciation, and amortization schedules.
- Post journal entries (e.g. payroll, adjusting entries etc.) as required for the companies.
- Calculate, enter and file corporate tax and other withholdings: HST, WSIB EHT, etc.
- Assist the Controller with preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial and management reporting related to the financial position and results of the organization, ensure an efficient monthly close process with accurate and up to date general ledgers and bank reconciliations.
- Assist the Controller with budget and forecasting activities.
- Assist the Controller with preparing year-end documents to facilitate tax filing with external accountants.
- Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall corporate goals and objectives.
- Ensure that all financial activities for the company are compatible with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance professional development of staff.
- Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and discretion regarding business operations, financial results and people matters.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Controller.
