Description:

The Driftpile Cree Nation’s (DCN) Chief Kinosew Children’s Lodge is community-based and family oriented to provide the care, protection and well-being of all Driftpile Cree Nation children in a preventative manner to promote the healing of all children, families and community. A coordinated, holistic, interdisciplinary approach is the foundation of the Program to meet the developmental needs of children, youth, and families with respect to the cultural identity, customs and traditions, beliefs and values.
Job Overview: The Accounting Manager reports to the Director of Finance and is primarily responsible for the supervision of managing financial transactions (accounts payable & receivable, payroll processing, and financial reporting). The incumbent will provide ongoing monitoring the Accounting department and ensure the implementation of policies and procedures. The Accounting Manager will ensure the financial information is available for reporting purposes in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor degree in finance or business administration or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • At least three (3) – five (5) years experience in accounting.
  • At least two (2) years experience in a Management position overseeing a department.
  • Provide proof of good standing with CPA.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations people, values, and culture.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, with clean driver abstract.
  • Fluency in Cree is considered an assist.
  • A Police Information Check & Child Intervention Record Check is required for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce reports representative of this data.
  • Reconciles the Accounts Payables and Purchase Orders.
  • Supervises the accounts payables (timely processing of invoices and payments to vendors/suppliers).
  • Supervises Payroll activities and ensures remittances are done in a timely manner
  • Maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Assists in Establishing and enforcing appropriate accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitor variances between actual and budgeted expenses.
  • Reconciles cash flow following the funding agreements.
  • Assists the Director of Finance in overseeing the accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, analysis, and preparation of the income/Budget and variance reports.
  • Collaborate with Payroll and HR departments to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Mentor and train staff members as needed.
  • Ensuring policies, practices, and procedures comply with professional standards and provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in the recruitment and performance management process.
  • Fully comply with all Chief Kinosew Children’s Lodge policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.
