Description:

The accounting manager is responsible for overseeing the collection, management and reporting of all financial activities in a cost accounting environment. This role emphasizes teaching and relationship building, fostering an environment where team members feel supported, empowered and equipped to succeed. Success in this role involves leading by example, actively participating in the completion of monthly and annual reporting and mentoring the team to achieve both individual and collective goals. The accounting manager will prioritize continuous improvement, cultivating strong relationships within the team and across departments to drive accuracy, collaboration and growth.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Empower team members through mentorship, providing clear guidance in fixed assets and cash management functions, while stepping in with hands-on support to demonstrate techniques and solutions as needed
  • Conduct final reviews of critical month- and year-end processes, not just for accuracy but to offer learning moments that clarify methodologies and help build confidence in their roles for team members
  • Foster an environment of trust and continuous learning by addressing accounting-related questions and guiding team members across general ledger, payroll and payables functions, ensuring they feel supported and informed
  • Collaborate with the team to identify and resolve anomalies, missing information and misclassifications, using these instance as coaching opportunities to reinforce accountability and improve analytical skills
  • Validate journal entries and maintain schedules, explaining their importance and teaching team members how to ensure accuracy and consistency in these tasks
  • Oversee cost coding and classification practices, coaching the team on improvements to promote a culture of continuous enhancement and skill development
  • Serve as a reliable backup for all accounting associates, using these moments to teach adaptability and cross-functional understanding while demonstrating a commitment to team success
  • Build trust and mutual respect within the accounting team and across other departments, encouraging cooperation and shared success
  • Provide ongoing, meaningful feedback to inspire confidence, guide improvement and celebrate achievements, strengthening relationships and team performance
  • Manage team workload and prioritize calendar demands to support effective work-life balance, demonstrating care and understanding for individual and collective well-being
  • Apply accounting principles to review and enhance current accounting procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with associates to develop, refine and implement tactical accounting procedures, empowering them to take ownership and ensure successful adoption

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or accounting-related field
  • Minimum six years’ experience in accounting with at least four years’ experience in accounting management role required
  • Proven advanced Excel skills required
  • Prior cost accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Project management experience strongly preferred
