We are looking for a talented Accounting Policy – Business Segment Manager to join our team specializing in Finance for Cummins, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- College, university, or equivalent degree in Accounting required.
- Licensed or working toward Certified Public Accountant or equivalent certification required.
- Significant relevant work experience, including managerial experience, required.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Accounting Certification required (CPA, CMA, etc)
- Public accounting experience
- Experience researching technical accounting matters.
- Ability to collaborate with peers and be seen as a trusted advisor
Responsibilities:
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
- Regional Expertise : Serve as the go-to expert within the policy team for specific regions, providing solutions for complex accounting questions and transactions.
- Training Leadership : Prepare and conduct technical accounting trainings tailored to the business unit, enhancing the team’s expertise and performance.
- Revenue Guidance : Review and offer guidance on revenue transactions, ensuring compliance with the accounting policy’s defined thresholds.
- Policy Documentation : Initiate and document memos for policy exemptions, coordinating with the Corporate Policy team for necessary approvals.
- GAAP Implementation : Actively participate in project teams to implement new U.S. GAAP requirements in a timely manner, identifying and monitoring the impact across the business.
- Projects : Engage in ad hoc projects that support finance system enhancements and collaborate with the Global Internal Controls team on control initiatives.
- Strategic Influence : Influence strategic decisions by providing insights and guidance on accounting policies and their implications on the business.
- Continuous Improvement : Drive continuous improvement within the finance function by staying ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes, ensuring the business unit remains compliant and efficient.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
- Financial Internal Controls - Regularly assess the effectiveness of internal controls and develop remediation plans to address any deficiencies in order to help mitigate financial reporting risks.
- Financial Reporting - Develop strong analytical skills to evaluate financial data. Use this analysis to support business decisions and prepare financial reports that summarize the data clearly and concisely. Ensure all financial reporting complies with regulations and meets stakeholder expectations.
- Technical Accounting Assessment - Research and evaluate transactions thoroughly to ensure they are recorded in compliance with accounting regulations and company policies.
- Technical Accounting Documentation - Clearly document your technical accounting assessments, including the accounting requirements, considerations, and conclusions. This documentation is crucial for communicating results to both internal and external stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will report directly to the DBU Accounting Policy Director as an individual contributor.
Primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Consulting and training on technical accounting interpretation and application.
- Reviewing current accounting processes/practices to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Cummins Accounting Policies.
- Collaborating with Global Region accounting and control employees to understand and improve processes.
- Developing and implementing a plan for reviewing historical processes and improve processes to improve future accounting accuracy and compliance.
- Assist with reviewing SAP process design for Project Quantum
- Technical accounting research and documentation
- Presenting technical concepts to regional teams and results to leadership
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Accounting Certification required (CPA, CMA, etc)
- Public accounting experience
