FarmCash administers the Advance Payment Program and is dedicated to supporting producers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated Accounting Specialist to join our FarmCash team. This pivotal role will focus on accounting, reconciliation, repayments, federal reporting, and overall producer account maintenance, while ensuring compliance with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Accounting with a CPA designation, or currently working toward one, or another recognized accounting certification.
  • Minimum five years of proven experience in accounting or finance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience with Xero accounting software is an asset.
  • A solid understanding of the agricultural industry and finance is preferred.

Responsibilities:

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance:
  • Prepare and finalize financial reports in accordance with AAFC guidelines and standards.
  • Prepare monthly interest income reports.
  • Ensure adherence to AAFC regulations and internal policies.
  • Assist with year-end audits by providing necessary documentation and insights.
  • Reconciliation & Data Accuracy:
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank statements, loan advances, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
  • Collaborate with various departments to address and resolve accounting issues.
  • Producer Repayments:
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of producer repayments.
  • Ensure all transactions are well-documented and aligned with company procedures.
  • Financial Data Analysis:
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance decision-making and financial processes.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial reconciliation and reporting procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Audit Support:
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and addressing inquiries.
  • Ensure timely submission of all federally mandated reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
