Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Reports To: Finance Director
Job Location: Seattle, WA
Hours/Schedule: Full-time, Non-Exempt, On-site
The accounting specialist position is responsible for operational support of the accounting office, including but not limited to processing accounts payable, assisting with cash acceptance and bank deposits, payroll support, and preparation of regulatory payable schedules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- An AA degree in Accounting or Business from an accredited two-year college, or a business/accounting major at a 4-year college going into junior or senior year.
- Working knowledge of general accounts payable, payroll, and cash deposit processes and procedures.
- Computer literate, able to quickly learn new software.
- Experience with MS Excel.
- Open to change, identifies and champions process improvement opportunities.
- Capability to plan, organize, prioritize and multi-task with close attention to detail with accuracy.
- Competence to work independently with minimal supervision, follow directions, and follow through with assignments.
- Unquestionable integrity and honesty, always striving to do the right thing.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to research, analyze, and reconcile financial data.
- Experience with financial systems PCC and MIP is a plus.
- Bilingual in Chinese preferred.
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

- Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and practices.
- Knowledge of payroll processes and practices, and/or willingness to acquire knowledge quickly.

Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable and company credit cards, ensuring timely payment while optimizing cash flows.
- Ensure that payments are coded correctly, minimizing the need for reclassifying entries. Proactively inquire with purchasing and other departments to understand costs to ensure accurate coding.
- Ensure that vendor data, including addresses and default coding is accurate.
- Book intercompany entries associated with external payments.
- Review vendor logs to identify potential missing payments and work with purchasing and other departments to ensure all invoices are received for processing.
- Help to improve and automate the payables process, including moving from physical paper copies to digital support.
- Own the 1099 process, including making sure that all vendor W-9s are current.
- Proactively log payables in required regulatory schedules.
- Make cash and check deposits to our banking institutions while following internal control requirements.
- Assist employees with timekeeping and payroll questions with a positive and helpful demeanor.
- Proof accuracy of employee time logs as part of the payroll process.
- Help with issuance of annual W-2s and 1095s.
- Prepare cash and other reconciliations.
