Description:

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist based in Des Moines, Iowa, for a long-term contract role. This role is pivotal within our manufacturing industry setting, involving a comprehensive understanding of cost accounting principles. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing financial tasks related to the company’s production processes, which include managing and analyzing costs, preparing budgets, improving financial systems, and ensuring all financial dealings comply with legal requirements and company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

3-5 years of accounting experience specifically in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and methods.
Proven proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment.
Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Familiarity with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations as related to accounting.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing and managing manufacturing costs, and preparing regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Assisting in the development, analysis, and implementation of budgets and standards.
  • Applying overhead costs as per the generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Developing and implementing accounting systems to track production costs.
  • Conducting detailed account analysis and reconciling sales, cost, and inventory, along with liability accounts.
  • Supporting both internal and external audits as and when required.
  • Collaborating with the manufacturing team to analyze costs and streamline procedures.
  • Creating and reviewing controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems.
  • Assisting in month-end close of the general ledger and conducting physical inventories.
  • Continuously managing and supporting budget and forecast activities.
    This role requires proficiency in a range of skills, including Accounting Software Systems, ADP - Financial Services, Ceridian, Concur, ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning, Accounting Functions, Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Auditing, Billing Functions, Great Plains (GPAC), Oracle, Balance Sheet Reconciliation.
