JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join Seafood 2000 Ltd. in the role of an Accounting Specialist – a key position dedicated to managing financial transactions, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate records. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong accounting/financial skills, technological proficiency, knowledge of the lobster industry, and be able to deliver on a range of responsibilities with efficiency and professionalism.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accurately record financial transactions in Sage 50, updating journals, ledgers, and records to maintain accurate financial information.
  • Process and review invoices for payment, ensuring they align with purchase orders, and maintain vendor records while addressing payment inquiries.
  • Generate and send customer invoices, track incoming payments, follow up on overdue accounts, and deposit cheques accurately in the accounting system.
  • Reconcile bank statements with accounting records, identify discrepancies, and prepare monthly bank reconciliation reports.
  • Process payroll for lobster harvesters, applying EI and CPP regulations, tracking deductions and advances (i.e. Equipment cost, fuel, bait, lobster levy, etc.), and assist with month-end and year-end processes·
  • Prepare documentation and provide support during internal and external audits by responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain organized financial records, manage incoming calls, and collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient operations.
  • Monitor and record company expenses, verify documentation and approvals, and prepare detailed expense reports for management.
  • Assist with tax return preparation, maintain accurate tax payment records, ensure timely submissions, and stay updated on tax regulations.
  • Address customer billing inquiries and resolve disputes professionally.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes and participate in training to enhance skills.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the lobster industry.
  • Proficient with technology and able to learn quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Proficient with software’s such as Sage 50, Track Tile, Seafare, or similar.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
