Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Thames Water as one of our Accounts Technician Apprentices. You will be learning about Operations Financial Planning and Analysis and Operations Management Accounting.

Start date: 1st September 2025
Base Location: Hybrid- Clearwater Court -Reading- RG1 8DB
Working hours: 36 hours Monday- Friday
Programme Length: 24 Months
Training provider details: First Intuition- Reading Bridge House, First Intuition, Reading RG1 8LS
Other immediate demands: Be able to commute into Clearwater Court 2 days a week and when necessary for meetings.
Entry Requirements for this apprenticeship include: Maths & English GCSE Grade C/4 or above and 3 A levels.
(To be eligible for the Level 4 apprenticeship you will need to have completed Level 3 AAT or equivalent. If you do not have this you will be signed up to complete Level 3 Apprenticeship.)

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS AN ACCOUNTS TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE

You will be supporting the FP&A Manager in preparing reporting, consolidations, timetables & communications, with strong financial controls and critical evaluation embedded in the processes. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly financial reports on performance.
  • Developing and implementing analytical standards and modelling of KPIs.
  • Involvement in formal budget & forecast cycles including rolling forecasts & long-term business plans.
  • Supporting the Financial Controller in understanding and transacting core financial processes. Ranging from regular cycle close processes, core financial control compliance and review, production/provision of information for statutory and regulatory accounts and preparing for audit.

Depending on your prior learning and experience you will either undertake the Level 3 Accounts Assistant or Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician apprenticeship standard, plus AAT qualification. This is delivered by regular workshops and skills days at our provider’s offices in central Reading.
