Accumulation Analyst Job Description
Job Family Grouping: Exposure Management
Job Family: Chief Underwriting Office
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The Exposure Management team contributes significantly to the success of AXIS across virtually all areas of the organisation to ensure that AXIS maintains an appropriate catastrophe risk strategy.
The Accumulation team has a fundamental role in helping the company build a global book of natural catastrophe risk by working to produce portfolio level analytics that allow us to understand the wider AXIS portfolio and to project forward.
What will you do in this role?
You will be responsible for producing monthly analytics for the AXIS Insurance portfolio working closely with the Catastrophe Modelling team, and for validating and reporting our results internally. You will have a key role in implementing continuing enhancements in the process, both independently and in conjunction with the relevant development teams.
You will have a role in the business planning process taking responsibility for one or more lines of business and working closely with Pricing and Underwriting will create projections that feed into the group plan.
The Accumulation team is responsible for collating data for the purpose of reinsurance purchasing for various lines of business. You will work with our brokers to ensure that the data we provide is an accurate representation of our cat risk.
AXIS licences a number of thirds party platforms and has a number of proprietary tools built within the company or within the team. You will assist in the continuing integration and enhancement of these tools where appropriate.
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:
Knowledge of cat modelling concepts and platforms with familiarity with at least one major model vendor – Verisk or RMS – is essential in addition to experience of working with exposure data and model outputs such as ELTs or YELTs.
Able to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, including typical catastrophe modelling terminology such as OEPs / AEPs / TVaR etc.
Understanding of outwards reinsurance structures and terminology would be advantageous, as would experience in modelling different structures.
Experience in SQL is essential as this role requires you to be able to query and transform large datasets, to work with model outputs and to be able to interrogate data from various sources. An understanding of more advanced SQL is preferred – stored procedures, CTEs, functions, indexing, optimisation – but not essential. What is more important is the willingness and capacity to learn these skills.
Knowledge of R and/or Python would be highly beneficial as many of our tools and processes are built in these languages. This might include knowledge of geospatial techniques, visualisation, data wrangling. Similarly, the capacity to acquire these skills and techniques would be sufficient.
We encourage you to bring your own experience and expertise to the table, so while there are some qualifications and experiences we need you to have, we are open to discussing how your individual knowledge might lend itself to fulfilling this role and help us achieve our goals.
What we offer:
You will be eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package which includes medical plans for you and your family, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid annual leave, and much more.
