Description:

Pacific Coastal Airlines is seeking a temporary* full-time Acting Director of Human Resources. This is a hybrid position (on-site and remote) based out of the Vancouver International Airport’s South Terminal in Richmond, BC.
Reporting to the CFO, the Acting Director of Human Resources will provide leadership, expertise, advice and direction on all human resources functions including employee relations and engagement, recruitment and onboarding, benefits and compensation, legal and regulatory compliance, HR departmental operations and other HR programs and initiatives. This position works closely with the company’s senior leadership and operational management teams to meet organizational and departmental goals.
Pacific Coastal Airlines is headquartered at the South Terminal building at Vancouver International Airport and was awarded one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for 2024. We fly scheduled and charter service between busy international airports, remote destinations in beautiful province of British Columbia.

The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has excellent phone and people skills and enjoys working in an ever-changing environment where multi-tasking and flexibility are the key attributes.

  • This is a 2-year contract covering a maternity leave.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field
  • 5+ years of HR management, leadership and business partnering experience
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CRHP) or similar certification is preferred.
  • Experience in a federally-regulated industry, and specifically the aviation industry, is a strong asset.
  • Experience working a complex, multi-location organization is preferred.
  • Proficient in the Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, privacy legislation, and other employment laws that pertain to federally regulated workplaces.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with multiple leaders, providing effective guidance and challenge where appropriate.
  • Experience driving people-focused initiatives
  • Occasional travel (E.g. 2-3 times per year)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee all human resources functions, including the development, implementation, and communication of company-wide human resources projects, initiatives, and policies.
  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of human resources staff, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Provide consulting and advisory support to company leaders on creating a positive working environment and escalated employee relations matters.
  • Consult and collaborate with company leaders to identify key issues impacting operational goals and offer strategic solutions
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to drive change including planning, implementing, and sustaining change within their departments while ensuring alignment with other teams across the company.
  • Plan and develop people-first strategies to meet the unique business requirements of each operational area while maintaining consistency and alignment with overall company strategies and programs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in employee-related legal matters, employment contracts, privacy, human rights, etc.
  • Develop and ensure effective communication of employee-related company information, policies, procedures, and programs
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans, goals, objectives and budgets for the HR department
  • Foster an environment and culture that supports the goal of being a top employer
  • Ensure employee benefits plans meet the needs of employees and the company in a cost-effective manner.
  • Manage and oversee compensation programs and best practices
