Description:

To work as part of the team providing respite services to Children, Young People and Adults with complex healthcare needs, enabling their families to have a break from their carer responsibilities.
The post holder will provide support across Mill Lodge Adult Respite Unit, Squirrels Children Respite Unit, and Home-Based Respite:
by organising activities that are tailored to the needs of the individuals, and group activities to bring people together.
Delivering and arranging activities for individuals to provide a stimulating environment to meet their emotional, social, physical & intellectual needs.
Developing and maintaining a range of resources which short break staff can use to enhance the provision of short breaks for children, young people and adults.
Ensuring the individual needs of patients are met, providing opportunities for individuals to use their skills and enhance their quality of life, whilst maintaining their independence and privacy.
Working on a rolling shift pattern, including alternate weekends, applying a flexible attitude to working hours especially in regards to covering absence & holidays, including bank holidays, evenings & weekends.
Displaying a caring, sensitive & approachable nature.
Displaying compassion, patience & empathy in all tasks, whilst being creative, organised & reliable in approach to work.
To contribute to the delivery of care packages for patients with learning disabilities and complex health needs for example, to enhance quality of life where possible.
To create organise and offer children, young people and adults who access NCH&C short breaks services a stimulation programme of internal and external activities

A day in the life of an Activities Support Worker

  • Providing support, communication and engagement with children/young people/adults
  • Creating activities - you will be in charge of designing engaging activities planned both internally and with external resources.
  • Event planning – the Activities Support Worker will be involved with planning events such as summer or Christmas parties
  • Interaction – to engage with CYP/Adults to see which activities they want to do and supporting them in doing so
  • External communications – as an Activities Support Worker you will be speaking with external entertainers or businesses to organise visits
  • Social activities- trips out, social engagements and activities within the units for all abilities.
