Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Activity Aide is to provide the support and assistance in implementing recreation activities. Performs interventions under the direction of and as delegated by the Director of Care in accordance with established standards and procedures of the Recreation Therapy Department. Provides a broad range of individual and group activities that are developed to meet the clients’ needs under the guidance of the Client Services Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of meaningful programs for the clients, in collaboration with the Client Services Manager.
  • Completes assessments and evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation charting using Point Click Care.
  • Providing one on one support to clients while promoting interrelationships within our facility.
  • Providing support with the process of forecasting and monitoring expenditures of funds allocated to activation/recreation budgets.
  • Providing clients with a safe and comfortable environment by remaining aware of risk management issues that could compromise safety or incur liability.
  • Maintaining excellent documentation systems.
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with clients, families, volunteers, and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events.
  • Responsible for organizing and overseeing clients on outings.
  • Coordinates the portering of clients to and from the activity.
  • Demonstrating techniques of recreation activities to clients, staff and volunteers in the facility.
  • Carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable clients to maintain maximum potential for independence.
  • Maintaining the volunteer database and accountable for providing functional direction to volunteers.
  • Completes evaluation and reporting of relevant observations of client’s progress/participation to the Client Services Manager or interdisciplinary team.
  • Responsible for organizing furnishings and equipment for designated activities.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records.
  • Encouraging client participation in programs.
  • Coordinates and serves on the various committees responsible for the client care.
  • Completes Annual & Mandatory Education/In-Services as well as all required education/in-services as per organizational requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Good knowledge of written and oral English
  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience working in a Supportive living setting
  • Experience with clients within a Mental Health/Harm Reduction setting
  • Experience in recreation programs for Mental Health clients

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Health Care Aide certification or equivalent an asset.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) education an asset
