Description:

The post-holder will support nursing staff in maintaining high standards of care for all patients’ on the ward.
This is a new challenging role requiring personal resilience and an ability to empathise with and support people who are often at their most vulnerable. The role requires an awareness of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and dementia and skills to positively engage and interact with people from a variety of backgrounds and with differing needs.

Provide and facilitate recreational, social and educational activities as part of the Ward Programme following set aims and objectives.

  • To support access and facilitation of hospital based activity sessions both on a one-to-one and group basis for service users across all wards working within agreed inpatient standard timescales.
  • To actively promote the benefit of undertaking therapeutic activities within a hospital setting, to service users and other team members.
  • To ensure all service users are aware of activities which may be of benefit to them and how these can be accessed.
  • To communicate to other team members the therapeutic aim/ purpose of activities.
  • To contribute to assessment and support the development and implementation of care plans.
  • Following an assessment, to assist in the treatment of delegated service users implementing the recovery plan that has been agreed. This may involve working with groups or individuals in a variety of settings including the ward and the community to promote social inclusion.
  • To initiate, develop and implement new activities in response to service users’ needs, where appropriate following evidence based practice.
  • To ensure therapeutic areas and appropriate materials are prepared for use in the activities, monitoring potential risk.

The successful candidate will participate in opportunities for occupational development under the supervision of an identified nursing colleague.
