QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with children with disabilities (minimum 1 years).
  • Experience working in a childcare/educational setting delivering lesson plans and curriculum (minimum 1 years).
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in camp related or recreational activities is an asset.
  • Previous experience with curriculum design and implementation is an asset.
  • Between Friends Inclusion Training, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Coaching Kids of All Abilities, and/or HighFive certification(s) is an asset.
  • The ability to work well in a team and individually.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Previous experience in Adapted Programming is an asset.
  • Must be available for 40 hours per week (8 hours per day), Monday to Friday, July 14-28 and August 5-8, 2025.
  • Must be available for mandatory staff training June 23-27, 2025.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

MRU Camps is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in sharing their knowledge, passion, and expertise of adapted programming with children and youth with disabilities. Under the supervision of the Sports & Outdoor Education (SOE) Supervisor, the Instructor is responsible for delivering lessons and leading campers through a variety of activities such as crafts, sports, and games. Additional responsibilities include the completion of required administrative duties and maintaining smooth, cooperative, and professional relations with staff, campers, and parents. Camp Instructors will also work closely with Camp Leaders and Volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, deliver and modify program lessons and activities.
  • Ensure safety, well-being and enjoyment of campers from ages 10 - 15 years old.
  • Make accommodations for campers with varying learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with co-Leaders and Instructors to deliver daily programs.
  • Assist camp Leaders with recreational and classroom activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate lunchtime, before and after care.
  • Administrative tasks associated with the program including camper registration, incident reports, and attendance.
  • Attend staff orientation and any necessary staff meetings.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s experience at camp.
