The Cato Institute seeks a dynamic and highly motivated administrative assistant to join the Economics team. Reporting to the VP and Director of CMFA, the assistant will support multiple team members and play a key role in administering and executing the economic policy team’s goals and projects. This position will also act as a liaison to other Cato departments and support the Economics Department’s ongoing work, which includes internal communications, submitting expense reports, event planning, and more.
This is a hybrid position in Washington, DC.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of professional work experience, ideally in an Executive or Administrative support-related role.
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic, consistently completing tasks on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable interacting with individuals at a high level.
  • Composed and highly organized with a keen attention to detail, quality, accuracy, and customer orientation.
  • Positive and professional mindset with the ability to provide superior support to the Economics team.
  • Motivated self-starter who can problem solve and is proactive in learning new processes and skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp and NetSuite preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative, operational, and clerical support to senior economic policy executives and other team members.
  • Manage the calendars, expense reports, reimbursement, and travel.
  • Coordinate and stage meetings, including scheduling meetings with internal and external parties, reserving space, and coordinating/obtaining catering if needed.
  • Train new staff in the essential functions of the department.
  • Maintain standard operating practices for the department and share updated policies with staff.
  • Supports department colleagues and performs additional duties as assigned.
