THE OPPORTUNITY

The Family Justice Initiative is a new, statewide Family Court project that will support a strategic planning process to increase access to justice in Family Court across New York State. Strong Starts is a Family Court-based, attachment and infant mental health-focused innovative program model created to meet the unique needs of infants and toddlers who are subjects of child protection proceedings.
The Center’s Family Court Programs team is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to support Family Court Programs and help with the day-to-day management of their administrative tasks. Reporting to the Center’s Director of Family Court Programs, the Administrative Assistant will primarily support the expanding needs of the Family Justice Initiative and the Strong Starts Court Initiative (Strong Starts). The Administrative Assistant will, as a representative of the Family Justice Initiative and Strong Starts, engage with judges, attorneys and other court partners, child welfare practitioners, and community-based service providers, as well as other Center program partners.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the preparation of agendas and materials for national conferences, stakeholder convenings, internal meetings, and external meetings;
  • Support management of project stakeholder database;
  • Build on and streamline logistical and operational infrastructure for internal project processes to match expansion efforts;
  • Draft and submit contracts, extensions, and modifications in coordination with the Legal Department for consultants and sub-contractors;
  • Be responsible for the credit card reconciliation process and submitting regular expense reports for approximately 45 staff;
  • Process invoices and coordinate with the Fiscal Department regarding payments for consultants, sub-contractors, and other expenses;
  • Book transportation and accommodations for Family Court staff, consultants, and court staff to travel to meetings, conferences, and convenings;
  • Manage calendars and schedule meetings;
  • Assist with the hiring and onboarding of new staff in coordination with the People Department;
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of training events and stakeholder meetings, including providing logistical support for registration, hosting webinars, and overseeing CLE credits for participants; and
  • Other activities as needed.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree and1-2 years of experience working in an office/human service field is required. Experience related to administrative experience and working on gender-based violence, child welfare and/or child victimization issues, especially as they relate to the justice system is preferred. Interest and experience in working directly with children and adolescents and their families is also preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a warm and upbeat personality, and is comfortable learning and using new technologies. This role includes supporting multiple members of the leadership team and a number of programs, which may require some travel between the Center’s various office sites. We are seeking a highly skilled, detail oriented, and self-motivated administrative assistant to support the Family Court Program’s team. A successful candidate will serve as a critical resource in creating efficient, effective and seamless operating systems. Excellent written skills are a must. Candidate must be a skilled communicator, highly organized and able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and organizations onsite, in the community and nationally. Occasional national travel will be required. Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.

Position Location: Midtown, Manhattan.
Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $52,000 - $62,100 and is commensurate with experience.
