Description:

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position that reports to the Chief of Police and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.

JOB DESCRIPTION

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. The Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police will serve as the primary point of contact with other offices, including external agencies. This position will greet and assist anyone seeking assistance from Campus Police, handling phone calls and assisting visitors in person. The Administrative Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Chief of Police and the Campus Police Department, assisting with day-to-day operations, communications, and coordination of safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in Administrative Assistance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous administrative experience is required, preferably in a public safety, law enforcement, or educational setting.
  • Experience with scheduling, record-keeping, and handling confidential information is essential.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with database management systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information and matters related to the Campus Police Department
  • Ability to problem solve and use critical thinking to assess and mitigate risk.
