Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW
An employee in this position provides support for many mission-critical functions of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The primary responsibility involves the collection, data entry, storage, and dissemination of reports. This position also maintains all the functions required for DCI certification including class scheduling and recertification.

- Must be a US citizen
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be able to obtain and maintain DCI certification within 90 days from date of hire
- Must have at least one year of experience and/or training involving clerical work, office assistance, or records processing; experience and/or training with processing and maintaining law enforcement records preferred but not required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the public, co-workers and supervisors
- Ability to learn RMS, CAD, DCI, and other software
- Ability to obtain proper training to serve as the ATAC
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and work without close supervision
- Ability to organize work effectively
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Ability to competently manipulate keyboard
- Must proofread and spell accurately
- Ability to obtain considerable knowledge of policies and procedures of assigned office as well as other departments

- Ability to train at minimum, two (2) weeks on night shift
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule (occasionally cover for Shift Records Clerk)

Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to citizens and members of this and other agencies
- Handle sensitive and confidential information
- Responds to inquiries from the public as well as other government agencies
- Answer and screen phone calls; route calls to appropriate personnel or agency
- Compile statistical reports for the public and other sections within the Sheriff’s Office
- Compile, sort, and distribute mail, incident reports, and other documents
- Prepares documents for court
- Maintain a proficient filing system
- Assist the public by phone and on a walk-in basis with information pertaining to the incident reports; gather essential information and complete incident reports as necessary
- Review reports and other material prepared by others for accuracy and completeness; request and/or make corrections as necessary
- Accurately query, enter, and validate information in DCI regarding all missing persons, wanted persons, stolen vehicles, criminal histories, etc.
- Assist supervisor with enrolling users into DCI classes and administering DCI tests
- Cross-train periodically to cover for the Shift Record Clerk position
- Assist other sections within the Sheriff’s Office after hours, including weekends and holidays
- Perform other duties as assigned
