Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Recognizing that both communicable and non-communicable diseases, health inequities, and climate change are interconnected, the Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness (RGC) at the Milken Institute School of Public Health (SPH) at the George Washington University works within the University and community partners to support research, share expertise, and advance evidence-based policy solutions to address these interlinked public health threats.
Improving the health of all persons living in the District of Columbia, with particular attention to addressing health disparities, is a major goal of the Center. We are particularly interested in research and policy that further the goals of equity and dismantling racist systems, structures, and practices related to disease prevention.
Although our funded pilot studies have focused primarily on nutrition, physical activity and obesity over the past 9 years, we are now examining activities that are directed toward reducing disparities in both communicable and non-communicable diseases within the DC metropolitan area. An additional area of interest is the development and/or implementation of strategies that prevent and mitigate both climate change and human health. Past projects have included building sustainable food systems through policy and research support to the DC Food Policy Council, developing policy initiatives on road pricing as a public health strategy, and proposing strategies to create an equitable and activated park system for DC.
RGC currently includes full-time faculty, full-time staff, part-time research staff, and support to graduate students from Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. The Redstone Global Center engages with both the MPH and the PhD programs and seeks to be an active participant in the Climate and Health Institute within the GWSPH.
