RSFH 2025-2027 Administrative Fellowship

Job Summary:
The Administrative Fellow is considered to be performing at entry level and in a training capacity, learning the appropriate organizational and operational routines of RSFH. The Administrative Fellow will be expected to provide a range of administrative skills and work closely with system leadership in the formulation and completion of assigned projects. Through observation and practice, the Fellow will be expected to develop a basic foundation in clinical medicine and health care administration for resolving problems associated with the delivery of patient care and business operations. Assignments are to be of sufficient complexity, depth and variety, requiring the application of independent judgment and the exercise of initiative.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Masters Healthcare Administration (MHA), Masters Public Health (MPH), or Masters Business Administration (MBA) required, or be currently enrolled in a MHA, MPH, or MBA program.
Experience: Prior experience in a healthcare environment desirable but not required.
Licensure/Certification: None Required

Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet search techniques.
Other: Candidates must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Candidates must possess ability to interpret and assimilate clinical/business information from varied sources (both internal and external) to communicate with providers, teammates and administrative leadership as well as evaluate metrics of achievement. Candidates must possess the ability to partner with physicians, administrative leadership and teammates to achieve specific outcomes. Candidates must demonstrate leadership, independence, responsibility, accountability and good judgment. Candidates must possess ability to think strategically. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills to coordinate and manage multiple activities simultaneously including an ability to plan and facilitate meetings, delegate, and determine priorities and critical path items.

Work Demands/Environment:
Frequent sitting. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. No exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal office environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  1. Orientation to Roper Saint Francis Healthcare (RSFH) facilities, corporate divisions and departmental services. Develop an understanding of reporting relationships and departmental interaction and collaborative work processes. Review the organizational framework and function of administrative and clinical departments. Become familiar with the System’s strategic planning and budgetary processes.

  2. Attend variety of meetings including, but not limited to, Board of Directors, Medical Staff, Integrated Practice Networks, System Vice President/Directors, Senior Executive staff, departmental staff and a variety of committee and/or task force meetings.

  3. Prepare projects, studies, collection and analyses of data relative to the internal operation of the System and its facilities including, but not limited to the following areas: business development, finance, human resources, managed care, mission, strategic planning, operations, quality, compliance and information systems.

The Administrative Fellow will:

  • Lead projects that develop analytical, leadership, finance, and health care operations skills.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, consistency, and meets multiple deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit an understanding of health care administration, health industry trends, and an understanding of organizational structure and mission.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Act as a self-starter and demonstrate a willingness to take on new and challenging leadership roles, as well as non-leadership projects and deliverables.
  • Build effective health care management skills and the ability to work with administrative leaders, as well as physician and clinical leaders.

4. Coordinate activities with the assigned preceptor within administrative fellowship program during two-year time frame. Provide meaningful feedback and comment regarding professional experiences as a basis for leadership development in executive decision-making and judgment. Coordinate the selection and placement process for RSFH’s administrative fellowship program.

5. Review national, state and local healthcare literature, RSFH documents and related materials as part of broadening professional knowledge in the operational aspects of the healthcare system and its components.
