Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Administrative Support Clerk provides administrative support to the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Program by performing receptionist duties, screening calls for Program staff, maintaining database and inputting confidential health information and compiling statistical data; and performs a variety of general clerical duties, such as drafting and typing a variety of documents and correspondence, communicating with Ministry of Health and Crown Counsel offices.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduation plus a Medical Office Assistant Certificate.
Three (3) years’ recent related experience; or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Child, Family & Community Service Act.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to type at 55 wpm.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Utilize word processing, spreadsheets, database applications and e-mail.
  • Prepare, maintain and control a variety of office records, documents, confidential correspondence files and related data with a high degree of accuracy and proficiency.
  • Communicate, orally and in writing, including a thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation.
  • Foster and maintain excellent customer/client relations.
  • Ability to work with vulnerable children and families.
  • Act with tact, confidentiality and discretion.
  • Organize workload and deal with many tasks simultaneously.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
